“Oh—Jessie, Jessie—where have you gone?”
The whisper drifted softly from within the hall.
Jessie crouched low with her body withdrawn,
Cold tiles biting with bruised knees pressed to stone.
“I will come for you before the peak of dawn,”
The voice uttered with a promise so severe.
She clutched a blade, her faith to lean,
Yet still she could feel his presence draw near.
“Jessie, Jessie—come my dear,”
The hallway echoed with dragging feet.
“Open the door before I appear.”
A twitch at the knob, a scratching moan,
Nails on wood like grinding stone.
A shadow crept, it twitched, it spread—
Twisting, writhing, its hunger not fed.
“I know you’re in there,” the voice was clear,
It slithered, it called, it crawled to her ear.
The doorframe shook with a wicked delight,
A sound that steals both breath and sight.
The hallway light began to flick,
Casting shadows that dance and sway.
Then came a tapping, soft and slow,
A nail on wood, a maddening creep show.
High laughter rose with a jagged scream,
It tore the edges from her messed up dream.
Her trembling hands clutched the floor,
Time stretched on with each second more.
The phone rang with a chilling knell,
Its echoes trapped her in their spell.
Her hand hovered over the door once more,
While heavy steps climbed the upstairs floor.
A stench of rot crept through the crack,
“It’s for you,” it whispered and drew back.
Her tears ran free, her chest was tight,
She braced herself for an endless night.
“Let me in,” the voice uttered,
She hurled the lamp, it quickly shattered.
The shadow pulsed, it mocked her pain,
Slithering closer in a twisted stain.
A finger slipped beneath the frame,
Pale and deformed like a claw of foul claim.
It scratched, it writhed, it left its mark,
Then vanished back into the dark.
She dared to peek outside the pane,
The yard was filled with deathly bane.
Faceless bodies, charred and thin,
Their sockets hollow, jaws stretched in.
They pointed fingers —twitching all at her,
Their silent threat is a cruel spur.
The high laughter rose like a rushing tide,
Her legs gave in with no place to hide.
The door creaked open as the cold wind blew,
The stench of death while the shadow grew.
And in the glass she saw him there,
A creepy smile with a wicked stare.
His hand fell heavy on her shoulder,
His laughter is sharp and wickedly colder.
Jessie froze for her world is now undone,
Trapped with the HIM with nowhere to run.
